• Governor Crist
    SUPPORTED Obama's
    stimulus plan, even going so
far as to introduce him at a town
    hall.  And although Crist's political
career has a Florida focus, his
support for the stimulus plan (more
    whole-hearted than even Olympia
    Snowe's) should clearly place him
among the likes of Specter, Collins,
    and Snowe.

  • As columnist A.W.R.
    Hawkins of Human
    Events reports, Governor
    Crist's gubernatorial
    career bodes poorly for
    the national stage.
    Consider the following:
  1. During Crist's tenure, we saw the Harriet
    Myers appointment in reverse. He
    appointed a good conservative, Frank
Jimenez, to the State Supreme Court.
When the left began shouting that
    Jimenez was underqualified and "too
    idealogical," Crist's knees buckled.  He
    withdrew the nomination.  Instead, he
appointed Jorge Labarga, a judge viewed
favorably by the left.  One can only wonder
whether a "Senator" Crist would have
voted for Clarence Thomas or Priscilla
Owen. There's little doubt, on the other
hand, that he would have voted for
    Sotomayor.
  2. In April '07, Crist received a thank-you
letter from Bill Clinton.  The reason?
Clinton praised Crist for all his efforts in
    bringing voting privileges to convicted
    felons (Hawkins).

  • To earn his green creds, Crist took part
    in a "climate-change" summit, sharing
the stage with other leaders of the green
    movement, such as Robert Kennedy
Junior (author of  Crimes Against Nature:
How George W. Bush and his Corporate
Pals Are Plundering the Country and
    Hijacking our Democracy).  Crist
followed up with an executive order that
20% of all electricity produced in
    Florida must use "alternative fuels"
    (Thornberry ).

"Republicans face the specter of another
Arlen in the Senate if Crist runs and wins."

--Larry Thornberry in The American Spectator

    "When spending cuts are discussed,
the quickest way to rile-up voters,
Charlie is AWOL. And he supports all
    manner of costly enviro-nonsense.
    He's the RINO's RINO. Conservative
    Republicans in Florida would gladly
trade Crist to the Democrats for a case
of Gatorade and an Olympia Snowe
    bubble-gum card."

    --Larry Thornberry in The American
    Spectator

"His emphasis during his first three years as governor has
been on redefining Republicanism with attention being paid
to traditional Democratic issue like the environment. And, no
one who knows Crist thinks he will run -- either for the Senate
or for president in 2012 -- as anything but a new sort of
establishment Republican; former Arkansas governor Mike
Huckabee or Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin he is not. Should Crist
get elected next November, he will immediately surge to the
top (or close to it) of the group of moderate Republicans
calling for a change in the way the party defines itself."

--Chris Cillizza in The Washington Post
